The 70th Kings’ Gold Cup Tournament, one of the nation’s oldest tournaments, was injected received funds from Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd as the main sponsor for the tournament. Puncak Niaga began sponsoring the tournament last year and continued their commitment in this year’s games to show their relentless support for the local football industry.
A sponsorship handing over ceremony was held on November 9th, 2010 and was attended by YBhg Tan Sri Rozali Ismail, Executive Chairman, Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd. Among the attendees were YB Dato’ Takiyuddin Hassan, President of the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM), FAM executive committee and council members, state and team representatives.
The tournament preliminary rounds took place from November 5th until 7th but the preliminary for Group A comprising Perlis, Pahang, Negeri Sembilan dan Kuala Lumpur was postponed to November 7th until 9th due to the floods in Kangar, Perlis.
YB Dato’ Takiyuddin Hassan, FAM President declared that Puncak Niaga (M) Sdn Bhd’s readiness to sponsor the prestigious tournament is a testament of the company’s commitment in supporting the growth of the local football industry.
FAM is proud of Puncak Niaga’s dedication in advocating and empowering the local football scene as the nation’s major sports and hope that both FAM and Puncak Niaga will continue to collaborate in the future.
According to YB Dato’ Takiyuddin, for the first time in the history of this tournament, the preliminary rounds will be broadcasted live on television via ASTRO ARENA on channel 801. The semi-final and final games will also be broadcasted live on ASTRO ARENA.
Introduced in 1922, the Kings’ Gold Cup Tournament is among the oldest football championship in the country, which is organized by FAM.
The champion team will receive a trophy and cash prize of RM30,000.00.
The quarter final games took place on November 13th and 20th, 2010 while the finals will be on November 28th and December 4th.
The final games will take place on December 11th, 2010.
